Where have all RTS games gone?

I grew up playing Warcraft 2 and Age of Empires 1, later Starcraft 1 and eventually Warcraft 3.

I miss base building RTS games dearly and i am super sad that we are not getting any modern ones.

Has any base building RTS game announced lately?

Is the potential playerbase really so small for these types of games that devs and publishers dont feel like investing into them?
