New Knife Laws - Share Your Experiences, Observations and Thoughts
Nearly a month has passed since the new knife laws came into effect. Other than a handful of sensationalised posts about dads being criminalised for carrying their leathermans to the shops, there hasn't been much talk here on how this has actually impacted our everyday lives. Keen to hear about this subreddits experiences.
Personally, I have noticed cops wanding people with metal detectors outside of the bus port and train station. This appears random at surface level, with office workers being searched alongside the "target audience" of these laws.
The police also seem to be more visibility conducting searches through the belongings of the homeless or otherwise rough looking individuals in the CBD. If anything, I can see these new search laws resulting in an increase in an increased arrest rate for minor drug possession offences for these people.
