Approved for Food Stamps Without an Actual Interview?

So, I applied for food stamps recently and was expecting to go through the usual interview process. But instead, a social worker just called me out of the blue and asked a couple of quick questions. She asked if I’m currently working (I said no) and if my unemployment benefits have run out (I said yes). Then she asked if I already had my state benefits card, and I said yes.

That was it. She just said, “Great, your benefits should start tomorrow after 6 PM. Call the 1-800 number on the back of the card to confirm before you use it at the store.”

I’m kind of confused because I thought the process would be more in-depth or that I’d at least have a full interview. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Is this normal? It just feels too simple, but I’m not complaining!
