I need help studying and taking notes

So today was the first day of college for me and I'm taking a developmental psychology class. And during the lecture I was so lost. I didn't know how to take notes while the lecture was going on. I didn't know what to write down. And I'm not even sure how I'm supposed to study for that class. I need help badly and I don't want to let people down.
