Going to work when sick?
So one of my coworkers had to get tested for the rona. Her whole family was sick, coughing, getting that rash, fever etc. she, rightly, called the store and explained why she couldn’t come in. This was last Tuesday- leading up to the fourth but not in itself specifically busy. My store is also generally slow, and she was a utility shift, so there was someone to cover her. She was out until today, and her test came back negative though she still has a slight cough.
She was telling me that the day she let our department manager know the situation, she got a call back saying upper management said she still had to come in, that she could still work until her test results came back. She argued back obviously, and didn’t come in.
I’m not trying to whistle blow or anything here, I was just wondering if this is really how stuff is being handled?
The coworker in question has only been here for six months but has never given me a reason to doubt her word before. Although it would be nice to know if she was exaggerating what happened.
I mean, I’ve worked retail my whole life, and I know there’s always the official line saying you should work while sick, but employees are often encouraged to just push through if. It just feels like with what’s going on, maybe that should change?
