5080's disappointing launch got me thinking, what if AMD competed in the high end GPU race?

7900 XTX is like 95% performance of 5080. pure rasterization. I think AMD could've directly rivaled Nvidia's 5080 if they went in for a race for high end GPU's? thoughts?
