Does your parent talk and talk?

Last weekend, I had a conversation over the phone with my mother.

My wife observed the tail end of it, and began gesturing for me to hang up. When I finished the phone call, I asked her why she had done this. Her response was that I was just sitting there, almost in standby mode whilst my mother spoke and spoke. I was almost unable to get the slightest word in, yet simultaneously felt unable to hang up. The conversation initially focussed on the U.K.’s national politics, before fixating on my mother’s ongoing rivalry with her younger sister.

I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this?
