Short form video content has completely taken over

I realize that this is obvious to anybody who goes online (or uses public transportation), but seeing the ways it manifests in real life is pretty upsetting. At the last family reunion I attended, everybody from the toddlers to the grandparents was using some form of infinite scroll video platform in their downtime. I knew tik tok was a big deal among younger people, but I didn’t realize how many new demographics had gotten addicted through Instagram reels, Facebook reels, YouTube shorts, etc. This format is so instantly accessible and maximally entertaining that it genuinely feels like a societal hazard. I’m confused as to why there’s so much public resistance to banning tik tok - obviously everybody will just migrate to other Silicon Valley-sanctioned platforms, but don’t you people want to be free from the spell that’s been cast on you by podcast clips and videos designed to stoke your insecurities?
