It’s crazy how many ethnic minorities and immigrant families who don’t believe in therapy or mental illnesses
This might seem like a lib talking point, but it’s crazy how black people, Latinos, Asians (Of all regions), Middle Eastern people, and immigrants in general don’t believe in taking care of your mental health or seeing a therapist if you really need one. Often times, they’ll use overplayed “Pull yourself by your bootstraps”-style talking points like “Your ancestors survived slavery, poverty, hardship, etc, and they didn’t need therapy! You just need to be stronger!”
For anyone from an ethnic or immigrant background, how does your family treat the entire concept of “mental health”? Do they believe in it, or do they see struggle and suffering as something that everyone has to go through without any support?
