Can someone PLEASE explain what Whitney is fussing about???

I feel like in salt lake, even more than other cities, they get so caught up in this he said she said thing which lasts entire seasons. I'm struggling to even understand the importance of the jewelry thing - surely they were probably all talking about it? Cause that's what they always do??? Why is she so intent on finding this magical one person who leaked something about a post that already existed on the internet? If she put as much energy into building her friendships up as she does to finding the perfect culprit of the alibaba controversy then she'd be so much happier!
