Pain management after surgery
My 12 yr daughter had surgery (fusion) about 40 hours ago and her main level is really disturbing to me. She has a regimen that includes acetaminophen (Tylenol), cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), gabapentin (neurontin), ibuprofen (Advil) and oxycodone (roxicodone).
She's really suffering and I have expressed concern about her pain level to several nurses, the pain management resident and nurse practitioner, and was told that movement is really important and Benadryl was proposed as an option. I'm at a loss for words. The drive home from the hospital was very stressful, and she cried and wimpered the entirety of the two hours home.
I don't have knowledge of pain medication but this feels barbaric and I feel like I'm contributing to traumatizing my child. I am going to call into her pediatrician tomorrow. Does this sound like the similar pain management protocol that others have done in the past?
