advice on divemaster internship
currently a 21 college student with plans to do a divemaster internship after i graduate may 2026. i found an internship program with indoocean, the reviews seem legit and i've been following their instagram to see how the place looks and the divers are being treated. it is located in indonesia so i just wanted some advice on if its worth it to travel that far? and if that internship seems legit enough to apply? i an currently at aow certification with nitrox and have plans to recieve my rescue in march of this year.
my second part is, if this internship doesn't seem legit enough, any other suggestions? i'm really interested in the scientific research part of diving (indoocean does research on the local environment and if i were to go to grad school, it would be for marine sciences with a focus on coral reefs), which is what is attracting me to indoocean in the first place. im just scared of traveling that far (i live in pennsylvania) and then the place is not safe or worth my time.
another possiblity that was suggested to me by my mom is divemaster internships with dressel where you stay at a resort and from what i understand so far, you basically teach/lead tourists while earning your certification. this offers places closer to home, they're at resorts, and i can even earn tips. the thing is, it just doesn't interest me as much as field work does. i know a divemaster internship at a resort would still earn you great experience, i just don't think i'm the type of person to really thrive there. i don't even like them as a tourist lol.
i attached a link to their website. any and all advice is appreciated! and sorry for the mini rant lol. this has been on my mind a lot as i start slowly planning my life after graduation, whatever that will look like.
