Burt & Fields
I don't think Burt is actually severed, or his '1st Edition' chip failed...and Fields is PISSED!
I'm pretty sure Fields slipped up, but was correct about the timeline. I think the "pile of corn" joke was Fields insinuating that Burt sleeps with the "livestock", and the whole hell thing was Burt letting Fields make up the details of the story, as penance for his infidelity.
The reasoning Fields gives for why his pastor would recommend severance doesn't add up considering Lumon's expectation of the innies devotion to Kier, which is, like, the ONLY thing that might condemn a soul to Hell, according to Lutheran doctrine.
Of course, it really doesn't matter what the wider world knows about the doctrine, as Burt, and thus, Fields, would've been aware of Lumon's internal religion assuming Burt has been involved for 20 something years.
I'm not certain that Drummond was sent to Irv's house by Burt.
I do think, unfortunately, that Burt's "Lumon partner" might have been Jame Eagan...
And...there is still a chance there might be real feelings for Irv in Burt somewhere...
