Split top king with Amazon adjustable base?

I just bought a FlexTop king P5 and was planning to buy an adjustable base off of Amazon. Has anyone else done this where you have a full adjustable base but only the split top mattress? I’m thinking it won’t be an issue as long as my wife or I never try to adjust only one side of the foot of the mattress, but am curious to hear from the community if anyone has done this similar setup and regretted it. Spending $700 on a base is much better IMO than $2100 on one from Sleep Number.
