Hang in there school SLPs
It breaks my heart to see the echo of my own painful exprience as a school based SLP in the U.S. being reduplicated in written form every week on Reddit. I just want you to know you are not alone in the stress, isolation, compassion fatigue, and outright abusive treatment that U.S. schools do to you.
I am now on teletherapy and while I often feel hopeless about that as well, I no longer have to wake up early and show up to a hostile and dysfunctional environment where everyone is as asshole to the SLP, nobody wants you to actually do your job but yet everyone screams about how you need to see a million kids for all the wrong reasons. It's the biggest scam and it's the reason why the grad schools overly emphasize superficial social qualities like social conformity, smiling under duress, and not asking any hard questions.
As we roll back into the school year just remember it's just a job not a mission, and if you are working in horrible conditions, please know you have every right to just buy a second computer monitor and go remote. It's not worth your soul or your sanity to suffer.
