Global inventory?

Hi folks! I'm brand new. I just finished the tutorial, and I'm amazed by the game already. However, I still don't fully understand the inventory system. I bought a gun and some ammo using the in game currency, then followed the tutorial up the the space station. I can't seem to figure out how to the gun and ammo into my personal inventory, or how Ill even go about equipping it once I do
