The outsider show, wtf?

Just finished the outsider book. Decided to watch the show. For the first two episodes I was amazed at the quality of the translation, best sk adaptation I had seen.

Until the 3rd episode with the introduction of holly.

Which I have zero problem with race stuff, the actress is lovely. Just the character is not the holly from the books at all. Wtf.

Like how hard would it have been to have her be a nerd about movies and socially awkward like in the books instead of some kind of aggressive general savant type?

They were so close with everything else, the vibe was perfect, the casting very good and everything then they just completely invent a new character and replace book holly.

just lame.

add on-

My issue is that for the first two episodes of the outsider, the attention to book detail is almost perfect. Then they introduce a character that is nothing like holly gibney from the books. It is the juxtaposition of the super accurate to a top to bottom redefining of the primary character.

Erivo is lovely, and the character she played was fine. Though it just wasn't Holly gibney from the books. My major complaint is that in every book she is in, she talks about films and hates confrontation.

When they introduce her in the show, she is naming of cars by the sound of their engine, and goes into a bar and demands "her" seat. Why couldn't they just have her closing her laptop after watching the godfather and writing in her notebook then putting on a nicotine patch. Instead of lazily naming off cars. I dont see the creative need to change her that way.

That is it.

Also, I want to see book accurate portrayals. I dont want to see stephen king watered down by a plucky screenwriter* and some focus groups. I want to see the book I love portrayed on film as accurate to the word of Mr. King as humanly possible.

It is my opinion. I dont care if you dont care about the details. I do. I mean, I am not gonna cry about it Happy crappy but I do prefer it.
