"Front" of Jelly Cnidarian Defender

Having a great time with the ship, but having difficulty noting where the "front" of the ship is pointing when in Jelly mode. Yes, I can use the minimap. Yes, I can sometimes see the engine exhaust, if the engine is running. But I'm looking for something better. Anyone have a tip? Perhaps a Vanity Shield or something that would help when determining where the ship is facing?
