Looking for exciting non-fiction that reads like a story!

Hi all -

I’m a mostly fantasy/sci-fi reader and have had a string of disappointing 3 star reads this year so far.

I’m trying to explore a bit outside my comfort zone and recently finished Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou, and loved it. I knew the story peripherally but IMO the author did a great job building it up and kept me interested for the entire book.

Please give me recs for similar non-fiction that reads like a story, definitely a plus if it’s “exciting” and keeps you at the edge of your seat but you end up learning cool new stuff.

Other non fiction I’ve enjoyed in the past:

The Hot Zone

Into thin air

Erik Larson books (especially Devil in the White City and Dead Wake)

In Cold Blood

Atul Gawande books

Any topic is good, but I especially love medical stuff (especially stories about a plague or pandemic), historical accounts (about recent events or the distant past), stories based on science, technology, etc, and true crime accounts.

I’m desperate for something different and fresh, please help!

ETA: thank you everyone for your wonderful suggestions! I have a list for my TBR now 🙌🏼
