Small desktop/semi modular synth to externally sequence - what do you like using?

I have the Hapax sequencer, what desktop synth/semi modular synth do you enjoy externally sequencing?  I love ambient music mostly, so melodies and arps which the Hapax is great for.  I've not used semi modular before though.  There is so much choice.

I mostly push all my effects through my MOTU audio interface as a send effect to the iPad which is extremely powerful for that part.

Just interested what device gives you those goosebump thrills when you hear it.
