Any Monitoring Engineers on this sub? Got any tips/resources for a guy that's been given a new opportunity?

SysAdmin with about 2 years of "general" experience. I recently got a new job, and the primary/first thing they want me to tackle is building out their monitoring solution, which up until my being hired has been neglected/half baked.

Previous to now I've worked for small orgs that didn't have the budget/interest in implementing a monitoring solution, so I haven't got a ton of experience in this area.

For those able/willing/interested in helping, do you have any books, sites, or other resources that you might recommend that focus on good principles for building out monitoring for an organization? Suggestions on solutions you're using, pitfalls to avoid, orange really anything you're willing to contribute would be appreciated.

I think this might be the first really big opportunity I've been given in my IT career so far, and I just want to do everything I can to take full advantage.
