Sniper in 2023
Let's have this discussion again in 2023, after more reflection on the status of the game.
As of now, Pyro is the second worst class after spy. Meanwhile, Sniper is the uncontested best class. We all know that he can instakill you from afar while other classss can't, yadda yadda. But the fact that he can also instakill you at close range, which is supposed to be pyro's domain, is downright outrageous. To kill a sniper you have to pass through each and every one of his teammates, getting damaged in the process. This means that with 195 damage, a jarate + bushwacka sniper can and will kill 8 classes out of 9 when they try to go for him and stop him. And the only class that doesn't die to his combo is the slowest one in the game and is the most vulnerable to snipers!
There's no justification for all the secondaries sniper got. They manage to perfectly deal with any weaknesses he has: he can negate backstabs, chip damage, fire damage, high mobility classes coming in directly to kill him from the backlines. Realistically the only class that can win with an high skill sniper is a scout, who still has to go through all the sniper's teammates, and then run back, so the team still loses the fastest class to capture the flag and the 2x speed bonus on CPs and cart.
I'd like to see anyone producing a coherent argument to defend sniper's current state (a class that can instakill any other class with 0 risk no matter the range, and to kill him you have to basically give up on helping your team with the main objective) while still being happy about axtinguisher and ambassador nerfs
