Can anyone confirm if BOGO/B2GO promos can have a paid line cancelled after 1yr and maintain the associated free line?

I've seen this mentioned both ways - that PAID/FREE lines part of a promo can be decoupled, with the paid being cancelled (after 1yr) while keeping the free line, and some say that they cannot. Which is correct?
