Please don't over analyze this game
Ok, I just posted this comment under u/TheKitof's post, but I think it's worth sharing this thought of mine in a separate post... you know, just to get downvoted twice XD
I know I'll most likely get downvoted for this, and that this place is full of players who are meticulous about statistically analyzing the game, but I need to vent: if there's one thing I can't stand, it's seeing a spectacular game like Twilight Imperium reduced to mere statistical analysis, strategy optimization, and racial win ratios. In my opinion, it means not understanding the type of gaming experience that a masterpiece like this can offer.
Ti4 should be played as an epic journey, as a continuous discovery—game after game—of new and thrilling situations. Empires clashing, alliances gradually forming, unexpected betrayals, heated arguments, heartfelt embraces, and glorious celebrations.
Maybe I’m pathetic and overly sentimental, but it kills me to see people who might avoid choosing a faction just because a spreadsheet shows that its win percentage is 3% lower than another option. What’s the point of knowing that the Nomad has a win rate deviation of 0.4%? Does picking the Winnu guarantee you victory compared to picking the Creuss? Personally, I’ve played the Creuss six times and won five of those games. What does that graph tell me about the Creuss?
Try throwing these considerations in the trash and focus on the epic, almost cinematic aspect of the game. It’s undoubtedly the best way to approach Twilght Imperium, and in the long run, it will undoubtedly make you a better player as well.
EDIT: for context, the guy in the original post wanted to convince his group to ban the Winnu over his statistical analysis. That's what "triggered" me a bit
