To Torque or not to Torque
Today I had my smart meter fitted, the guy who came out seemed kind of cocky like many electricians are. He works for who ever they use to replace dumb meters for smart meters. National grid? When he connected a new pair of tails from the incoming head to the meter, he was using only a standard insulated screwdriver, after he hand tightened the screws, he replaced the covers and sealed them. No torque gauge was used, and the screws are now sealed for security. Was this good practice, or should he have used a torque gauge to make sure the screws were correctly tightened?
I read so many OCD electricians on here insisting on torquing the screws correctly, yet this guy works for the national grid and only used a normal screw driver!
