Free Upgrade to Polaris on HND > LAX Flight
On my most recent flight, my wife and I were randomly upgrade to business class an hour before boarding. We were originally in premium economy since we typically try to fly premium economy for any flight longer than 5+ hours. Initial reaction from us was excitement and really looking forward to experiencing nicer seats on our long flight.
I was notified via text message, email and my digital boarding pass was updated in the united app. The flight was full so I think what likely happened was they overbooked and started promoting people up a class in order to accommodate everyone.
My overall thoughts on the “free” business experience: - The FAs check in on you more. I think the ratio of FAs to passengers is business is better and this is a result of that. - The food is average in my opinion. Might actually be the same as premium economy but could be wrong here. - Got probably some of the best sleep I have ever had on a plane in the lie flat seat. Was able to get a solid 6ish hours of sleep by being able to lie flat. Also made the flight go by much faster. - I don’t think the initial price of business class is worth it but maybe in the future if the cost to upgrade is significantly lowered a few days before I may consider it more on long haul flights.
