Glens Falls
Hi all. My wife and I (31, no kids yet but likely soon) are looking into buying a home and are kind of shocked to see how cheap houses are in Glens Falls compared to areas like Ballston Spa and Queensbury.
We are currently renting in Saratoga, and would like to be relatively close to the area, since we really enjoy it here. We visited GF a few weeks ago and found the downtown area to be mostly charming, and we’ve read that there’s a lot of festivals, a relatively big art scene, and I’m particularly intrigued by the minor league hockey team in town as a big sports fan. I also love the proximity to Lake George and the Adirondacks as we are both big nature lovers.
So my question is, with all that it seemingly has going for it, is there a reason why it’s so dang cheap? From what I’ve seen the school district rates as average, is that accurate, or is there more to be concerned about? And is there something in the town that should be a red flag before we seriously consider buying? I’ve heard that it maybe used to have a reputation in certain areas but certainly looks to be on the upswing. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Editing to note we both work remotely so commuting is not a factor for us.
