What is the point of the Coop advisor?

I gotta ask in my experience all they do is say the generic send lots of applications and push Weaccelerate to boost employment stats. Moreover, if you are in math then in order to even drop a work term you have to ask coopmath@uwaterloo or to take an additional course you must use the email. So far I have asked my coop advisor about who to contact to take an additional course during WeAccelerate and what can I do if I don't get coop. They have been wrong both times!
