How to remove mouse from home humanely?
There’s a mouse in my home. For hygiene reasons & safety he can’t stay- I’m also worried about the possibility of him bringing friends in. Obviously a live trap is humane, but here’s the problem with that: once I catch him, there’s no where I can release him where he’ll survive. I live in Upstate NY, the temperatures right now range between 10-20 degrees Fahrenheit.
I really don’t want him to die. I tried calling a pet store, but it sounds like he’d become a feeder mouse for their snakes. Also, because he wasn’t born in captivity, I can’t just keep him in a cage until it’s warm enough to release him, he’d go insane.
Every person I’ve asked keeps saying to kill it- even one of my vegan friends. I know (or at least hope) everyone in this subreddit will provide ideas that don’t involve killing him.
Edit: he snuck in about a month ago. We got a real Christmas tree and he came with it.
Second edit: we have a live trap, we put food in it…he managed to get the food out without triggering the latch mechanism. I am dealing with some kind of genius mouse. He also figured out my dogs can’t eat him if he just sits on top of them. Need new ideas for catching him!
Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you❤️
