Hi, I'm a non-vegan (meat eater) curious about veganism, but here are my concerns!
I've looked at the topics in the FAQ, but I don't see the question I need to ask (unless I missed it!).
I learned a lot about farm animal abuse in my youth, and I think about it every time I eat animal products, especially meat. In the past, I would try to go vegetarian or vegan, but it never lasted, because I transitioned too quickly and I didn't know much about nutrition. I've decided to learn more about nutrition, slowly eliminating meat products, and I plan on going pescatarian first. I don't believe eating meat is inherently bad (some of that has to do with my tribal cultural background). However, farm animals are treated so poorly, it's very difficult to eat meat without supporting the torture of animals - being vegan is the only true way to boycott Big Meat, Egg & Dairy.
Though I'm unsure as to whether veganism is right for me as a long-term diet, I see it as a very important movement towards humanity treating non-human animals more respectfully.
For me, besides knowledge and hastiness, the biggest obstacle was living below the poverty line. I hope to eventually make enough money to have more options, but it is very difficult having the time and money to spend on the variety of vegan foods that I would need to maintain a healthy diet and weight. My metabolism is on the higher side, too. When I would attempt veganism in the past, I could do so on a slim budget, but it took way too much time to make a variety of recipes - it felt like I was in the kitchen all day.
Whether I like it or not, veganism is a privilege - how would one go about making it affordable, time-efficient, healthy, and abundant? It seems impossible to me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
