Best new car in the 30-40k range, suggestions?

Preferences:

I prefer sportier cars/suvs but overall I just don’t want a huge car and something with good reliability. I’m not looking into anything like a charger/challenger, as I don’t want to spend too much on gas.

Options I was looking into:

Mazda 3 Sedan Carbon Turbo

Subaru WRX

Toyota GR86/Subaru BRZ

Ford Bronco Sport

Suggestions? Whether it be these or one I haven’t looked into?

Optional reading, Finances:

40 is probably the absolute maximum I can spend on a new car but not preferred, but if something at 40 is much better then I wouldn’t mind spending a bit more to get the best option.

I’m going to be selling a car I inherited because it is about to turn 10 years old and hasn’t depreciated much yet, I can get about 35k for it.
