First time with a sommelier

Girlfriend and I will be going to dinner at a very fancy steakhouse tomorrow night and we want to get a bottle of wine. We are anticipating our bill to be about $300-$400, not including alcohol. How do we go about talking to the sommelier about pairing a wine for us? The restaurants wine list has nearly 4000 bottles and can get up to $18k/bottle, but we are only looking to spend about $130/bottle and feel a little intimidated based on being too cheap of a bottle for them to waste their time.
