Does Gen Z really want everyone to understand them?

Hi guys, this post might be long but I just want to tell you a story about my colleague who MIA a lot in the office meaning she is on MC and on leave. Just this month, she took about 9 days on leave without informing anyone from my management. Plus, I know what she is doing, this month is her birthday and I do not know what else she did plus she still on leave till today. She is a law student who just graduated last February and last August she took Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP). Since then, she missed work a lot, MIA a lot. From what I saw she seem committed to her study a lot then work. Until my manager informed me that her performance dropped due to her commitment. My boss does not know she study. If he knew, she might transfer into contract role maybe. Let's say if I tell her how I feel these few months, she might say "I am busy" , 'I am tired. I need rest." or worst 'You never understand how hard CLP is' every time when I try to talk or contact her on the phone. Moreover, we have corporate event coming up next month, yet I am the one who covered her job since she is on leave till God knows when. Also, since August till now we did not spend time together anymore like going home or lunch together.

So my question is does Gen Z expect everyone to understand them even we are the one who struggled with their "commitment".
