Creating a very complex universe with multiple potential layers that I started 17 years ago. How do I go about it without overwhelming readers or alienating people?

So, I have started this story since a teenager and it developed throughout the years into something massive. I'd like to layout and share stor(ies) and was initially considering book series. Then thought maybe novellas first to allow readers a way in. Then changed my mind again thinking of web novels for world building and magic system. And then... Changed my mind again (shockingly creative; I know).

The point is I've been rewriting like crazy in order to simplify, tie loose ends, cover for plot holes etc. But also considering what's the right format to deliver complex setups? Where lore matters to the story. And rules also matter (and not in a good always wins finding just another relic, spell and done boom 💥).

Anyone has any tips on how you would prefer a complex multilayer story be told to you? Also whether you would consider following the story through books, social media and article or blog sites so you can cohesively understand and experience the content? Thank you 😊
