[TotK] What do I do with the magic rod?

Earlier I got the magic rod from the Mayam shrine and I'm unsure what to do with it. I know I have to attach a type of ore for it to do anything but I don't know what ores have what affects with it. I got a diamond from another shrine but that had no affect so I had to reload to before I put it on. Can you please just let me know which ores have which affect.
