“je suis admis” = “i passed”?
Is “je suis admis” in french the same as “i was admitted” in english or is it closer to “i passed”? I took an exam recently and once it was graded, they gave a list divided into simply two categories “admis“ and “non-admis” for those who score above the threshold and those who failed. I have also heard people say “je suis admis” after they earned enough points to receive a diploma like their undergrad or bac. Is it used in a different way from english where you would normally say “i was admitted (into)” something like a program or a school? Would you use “admis” more for something you got a grade on rather than being accepted into something? In the previous examples i heard, it sounded more to me like they said they “had a satisfactory performance.” If so what’s the difference between “je suis admise” and “j’y ai reussi” or “je l’ai obtenu”?
