This is a subreddit for fly anglers of any age and experience level, from any walk of life or lifestyle. If you pursue fish with fly tackle (or want to), you're welcome here. Some of us chase brook trout on bluelines with ultralight rods; others prefer streamers or dries or dynamic nymphing techniques. Many of us use double-handed rods for steelhead, have a chronic permit problem, or chase tarpon or even billfish on heavier gear. Read, research, query, contribute, brag - all are welcome here!

What is the difference between clothes labeled 100% linen and 100% flax? If labeled flax, does this just mean the material is made of the shorter fibres of flax and therefore a lesser quality? are there rules that dictate what word is used?

I’ve waxed this bag twice. Once with a bar and hair dryer and another with melted wax brushed on and hair dried. It doesn’t seem to have the classic look of waxed canvas. Should I apply more? Or, does it just need to be used to develop the patina?

I’m making a zip bag with a curved zipper and want to place a large order from a shop that has poly herringbone binding tape but not nylon. The recommendation is nylon as it is flexible for the curved lid binding. Is poly similar or would it be undesirably rigid for this purpose.

I bought a bunch of 30D nylon thinking it would be good for bag lining and didn’t realize most people are using 300+ for this purpose. Is 30D mostly only used for tents and tarps? Or could I still be using it as a liner.
