I lost it on my mother for not allowing me to mercy kill a horribly disfigured/injured animal.

Sounds like you need to chill out and probably apologize to your mother. She’s not a coward or a moron because she values life. Just because she doesn’t have the heart to kill it regardless of it’s condition doesn’t make her a bad person, just like being able to kill it doesn’t make you a bad person. And I find it a little unsettling that you’re that upset at not being able to “mercy kill” this bird. Maybe take a step back and breathe. Just my two cents though.

I find it a little upsetting to just allow this bird to sit in sheer agony, when there is only one solution. This bird will not survive under any circumstance, and prolonging it's suffering is not the "humane" thing to do. It's similar to if you found a deer that got hit by a car, the humane thing to do is to put it out of it's misery.

Don't know why she didn't let you kill it. Letting it suffer is cruel, not "peaceful". Im with you. Dont hold it against her for too long, though.

Thank you, we moved past it quickly, most of the emotion really came from the situation being so tragic, I think neither of us handled it perfectly well, but in the end we came to a solution. After all, both of us wanted the same goal (the bird having a peaceful passing) we just had different ideas of what that was.
