Flooded, Muddy Backyard :-( Muddy Dogs
My backyard gets very muddy when it rains, which means my dogs get extremely muddy. What can I put in the backyard to prevent the dogs from getting so muddy? I was thinking, maybe some river rock, but I don’t want some thing that’s just going to mix with the mud and possibly injure my dogs feet.

Mom gave this to me. I'm pretty sure she thought it would be valuable. I think it's just a mass-produced souvenir from Japan. I think my dad got it while he was in the Navy during WWII. Do any of you recognize it? Can you tell me anything about it? Thanks. (More in comments.)
